  1. Thank you for stopping by the Virtual Vision 2020 Website and sharing information about it on your site. This is a volunteer effort by members of the Second Life community to create a community plan for this virtual space. We started this because we believe that as a community we have reached a point where a plan identifying the community's goals and objectives could be beneficial to help focus community efforts going forward and improve the SL experience. The plan will also explain how the SL community developed and where it is today. While we would prefer to have Linden Lab partner with us in this effort, they have unfortunately made no indication they will do so.

The process we are following is modeled off the community planning process that takes place in just about every city in the U.S. (I am not sure if European cities undertake similar projects.) And while a plan is not the ultimate fix for everything, it can provide community benefit.

Right now we are in the beginning phases of the plan which is information gathering and public input. We will continue to have public workshops in SL over the next few months to get feedback from people all over SL. And we will continue to collect information through the surveys. It is so very important that as many people as possible contribute so the plan is truly representative of the entire community. Everyone's opinion is important.

In RL, this feedback is normally collected in public meetings or surveys and then posted on the planning site, but as we started our effort, we noticed many people in SL share their views online. So we have also been creating posts on the site where we highlight feedback that can later be incorporated into the plan. We don't really take any positions on the feedback because as facilitators of the plan, our job is only to capture and convey the community's position on topics related to our SL experience.

I hope you continue to contribute through the surveys or by attending workshops or writing posts expressing your views on the SL experience and where you'd like to see it develop. And if you have any suggestions at all, please let us know!

  2. Thank you for the additional information. In my blog post above I pointed to your survey page and I also complete some of them. In my next Sunday news, I will give another advise for my readers to filling out some of the surveys. But not all of my readers are able to understand English language.

My own interests in Second Life are exploring, all kind of scripted vehicles, and attending entertainment events, such like live music, SLxB or Burn2. Some of this is community related, some is not.

I will continue following your project site (via RSS feed) and if there is a topic that fits my usual blog theme, I will report this also in my blog. Overall I like your efforts to help Second Life by collect and define the community's position for future improvements of the in-world experience.
